I have been having such a sense of heaviness since hearing about the death of Charlie Kirk. He was known for being emblematic of truth. In all of this world, there is one truth we can stand on: “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6)
This verse is not a damnation for anyone not wanting to do with Christ. Rather, it is an open invitation – one we all have. It was a truth Charlie was willing to stand on, even to death, and I am thankful he was willing to have the courage to speak that truth.
“There are those who hate the one who upholds justice in court and detest the one who tells the truth.” (Amos 5:10)
The evil hatred for truth reared its ugly head and took a child of God and truth teller from this world. Not only is a wife missing her husband and two children missing their father, but a bright voice in the midst of darkness that was calling lost sheep to come home has been snuffed out.
After this news, we as followers of Christ have a personal decision to make. Will we be emboldened and still choose to be a voice in the darkness or we will we let fear or some other means silence us? Will we choose to stand on the truth we know as Jesus as the one true King and risk our lives so other can be led to Him?
This is a question I must seriously consider for myself, too. We have seen how much truth is hated. And I must not let the fear of death dissuade me from telling people about my Savior and the good news He has. My aim now is to pray that my brothers and sisters in Christ can stand together in the face of fear and still continue to speak truth. If I’m being honest, I can say have no doubts the power of God will embolden people.
Thank you, Charlie, for your example.
